One of Albuquerque's most popular restaurants is urging the public for help.Someone stole some very important equipment from Garcia's Kitchen. And the business is taking a huge loss.
The owners are upset because they're missing more than $13,000 of equipment. And all six locations in Albuquerque depend on the equipment to survive.Garcia's Kitchen has served millions of customers for more than 30 years."They want to get their chile fix," said Andy Garcia, an owner of the restaurant.Chile is an ingredient in almost every dish at the restaurant.Vicky Garcia, another owner, said, "Our green chile is the best."This month, workers were getting ready to start roasting the chile supply for the entire year."If we did not have chile for the rest of the year, we might as well shut our doors," said Vicky Garcia.Just a few weeks ago the owners left the restaurant at Fourth and Mountain and walked across the street to get the chile roasters out of storage but they were nowhere to be found.Someone had stolen them."We were looking for them naturally we were looking for them at the warehouses starting asking everybody," said Andy Garcia.Vicky Garcia said, "People are stealing our bread and butter this is how we are making a living."The owners rushed to find replacements and paid thousands of dollars to get the new ones made in Hatch, N.M.But now Garcia's Kitchen doesn't have to worry about letting customers down' for the rest of the year, thanks to the supplier."That man came through for us and thank goodness, said Vicky Garcia. "We received our first batch of green chile Monday morning."And the owners are taking new steps to make sure the new roasters don't disappear."Now we'll put locks on them. Now we'll keep them," said Andy Garcia. The owners still want to find the other chile roasters and are offering a $1,000 reward. If you have any information, call Garcia's or 242-3211.The owners of Garcia's Kitchen say, they have had equipment stolen before but nothing this expensive.
