KOAT's Sky 7 helicopter enables Action 7 News to cover 160,000 square miles and provide viewers with the latest coverage from around the state.
It became an important part of the station in 1980. Several choppers have come and gone since the original. Action 7 News wants to keep up on the latest technology to give the viewers the best quality of news.
The newest model of Sky 7 has the latest electronic newsgathering equipment available. This includes a 16-inch gyro-stabilized camera with a 72:1 lens. This means that Action 7 News can give an eagle-eye view of the news. The camera won't shake and can transmit live from just about anywhere.
It also has four onboard cameras, radios and scanners that allow communication with just about anyone.
Over the years, Sky 7 has assisted in numerous search and rescue operations, medical evacuations, law enforcement operations and fires by providing radio relay and directional information to ground crews on their way to the scene.
