POSTED: 11:56 am MST November 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Columbus Crew midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto received the final Major League Soccer Player of the Week honor of the 2008 season.

Schelotto helped lead the Columbus Crew past the Chicago Fire, 2-1, in the Eastern Conference final with assists on both goals.

The first came off a perfectly placed service into the center of the Fire's penalty area on a free kick. Chad Marshall headed the ball home to tie the game at one after Chicago had taken an early advantage.

Schelotto started the scoring sequence for his second assist, heading the ball to Alejandro Moreno before the Venezuelan knocked the ball into the path of Eddie Gaven. Gaven then took a touch and fired a shot past Jon Busch for the game winner.

The Crew will take on the New York Red Bulls on Sunday in the MLS Cup title game at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

The MLS Cup Playoffs Player of the Week is selected each week by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.

2008 MLS Cup Playoff Player of the Week Winners:

Week 1: Yura Movsisyan (Real Salt Lake)

Week 2: Dane Richards (New York Red Bulls)
