KOAT 7 earned four first-place awards from the New Mexico Broadcasters Association (NMBA), and the association named President/General Manager Mary Lynn Roper as its 2008 Broadcaster of the Year.KOAT 7 won these awards:

Mary Lynn began her career at KOAT 7 in 1977 and became the first female co-anchor of a nightly newscast in New Mexico in 1979. Then, in 1985 she became the first female TV News Director in New Mexico followed by another first in 1993, when Mary Lynn was named General Manager of KOAT 7. "It's humbling to be given this award," said Roper, "as broadcasters, we must never forget the reason we're here-and that is to inform the viewers and serve the public interest.
