The Public Regulation Commission has wrapped up its investigation of a local moving company. The PRC said it wants DC Movers to pay $90,000 in back fines. The fines stem from an investigation the state corporation did on DC Movers back in the mid-90s. That state agency found the company wasn't conducting its operations in a businesslike, ethical and courteous manner. To this day, those fines haven't been paid.
The PRC also said it wants DC Movers to cease and desist, and stop operating as a business all together. The cease and desist order also dates back to the '90s.The PRC has made its decision, and has gone to a district court judge with their recommendations. The judge will issue a final order.Danny Cappello, the owner of DC Movers, said he's maintaining his position that the PRC is just trying to push him out of business.Cappello said he's tried to work with the PRC to get his license, but the agency won't work with him.Cappello said he'll stop transporting household goods, but there's nothing to keep him from creating and packing. He also said he's still going to apply for his license within the next 60 to 90 days. The PRC is calling for a public hearing on DC Movers.Cappello will be asked to present his business records, respond to customer complaints, and also respond to why he's been operating illegally. The hearing is set for late August.
